About
My name is Breanna (Bree!) Boppre
I have a few different roles: I am a senior research associate in the Justice and Safety Division at the Urban Institute, I am an adjunct professor of criminology and criminal justice at Portland State University, and I offer individual services to non-profit and governmental agencies. My work focuses on correctional programming, supervision, and policies, with particular attention to youth, gender, and intersectional contexts. Having experienced parental incarceration myself, I prioritize research and technical assistance that seek to improve policies and programs for system-impacted families.

With over 10 years of applied research experience, I have led several evaluation studies focused on community corrections and youth programs as well as sentencing policies with a focus on addressing gendered, racial, and ethnic disparities in admissions and outcomes. I have authored over 50 publications including 21 peer-reviewed journal articles in top outlets such as Justice Quarterly, Crime & Delinquency, and Criminal Justice and Behavior. I have been nationally recognized for her scholarship on women and mothers impacted by the criminal legal system as the American Society of Criminology Division of Feminist Criminology New Scholar Awardee and Western Society of Criminology Meda Chesney-Lind Awardee.

I am dedicated to partnering with non-profit, governmental, and other direct service organizations through rigorous community-centered research/evaluation and technical assistance. I aim to build internal capacity and increase external engagement among human service providers that promote well-being and safety within our communities.

TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE & EDUCATION
I provide hands-on technical assistance to assist human service providers in tracking client progress and outcomes. I offer a wide range of technical assistance from creating reviews of literature and prior research to visually appealing handbooks and manuals.

I specialize in bridging research and practice by providing engaging trainings and presentations for practitioners and providers. I have been trained in effective presentation methods to streamline complex theories and data into accessible and impactful trainings to provide staff with tools needed to best serve themselves and clients. I provide a variety of trainings/workshops summarizing complex research for practitioners and interest holders on topics related to the criminal legal system, correctional rehabilitation, and juvenile justice/supporting youth and families.

RESEARCH & EVALUATION
I provide tailored methodological research and evaluation strategies to meet the needs of clients. I have expertise in quantitative and qualitative methods to demonstrate impact while providing important context and input from those directly impacted. I specialize in trauma-informed and community engaged methods.
I work collaboratively with clients to collect and analyze data. I offer a wide range of formats to sharing results to best serve the needs of clients, from community events and social media content to flyers, written reports, and presentations. I aim to present data in a way that will reach whoever clients identify as the target audience/interest holders. ​
